Hello, I’m Alyssa!
Professionally
I’ve been a writer and editor in tech for over 10 years, creating a wide range of online content that helps people learn.
Previously, I spent 7 years at Meta, specializing in consumer and advertiser education. For several years, I’ve worked as a writing tutor. Prior to all that, I worked in customer service. I’ve learned something valuable from every job I’ve ever had!
My strengths include team leadership, UX content strategy, full lifecycle editing, information management, and résumé & cover letter development.
Personally
As a Mexican-American woman, it’s important to me to continually elevate other historically disenfranchised people with my skills. To that end, I’ve served as a Latinx employee resource group lead for Meta, volunteered as a mentor with SJSU2 and iMentor, and assisted ESL learners through Building Skills Partnership. …and I have a few more volunteer activities in the works!
I have two personal mottos that motivate me in a slump: “Take one step at a time,” and “Do the thing—because the time will pass anyway.”
I’m a California Bay Area native living in southeast Los Angeles with my beloved 16-year-old Chihuahua mix Oliver. This year, I set a reading goal of 50 books in 2025. As of July 2025, my goal status is 33/50.
I’m a graduate student pursuing a Master’s in Library & Information Science. Read all about my transition from tech into libraries on the SJSU iStudent Blog!
